CONTENT AND OUTLINE
Programme description
The aim of the programme is to provide scientific education in the main field of animal science with a clear profile in companion and sports animals. The programme covers the fundamental biology required in order to understand animal science subjects, as well as the following in relation to animals: anatomy and physiology, nutrition and feed science, genetics and breeding, management, and ethology and animal welfare. The programme includes species-specific courses in which the fundamentals of biology and the animal science subjects are applied. The programme offers courses in basic business administration. The programme is concluded with an independent degree project in which the student applies their knowledge and abilities in and approach to a relevant issue in the field of animal science.
Together with optional courses, the degree project affords the student the opportunity to create a unique profile in their Degree of Bachelor. The programme contains no compulsory courses, but the entry requirements established in the course syllabuses reflect the progression within animal science. Active student participation, a dialogue between students and teachers, and variation in teaching forms are characteristic elements of the programme. The programme has a scientific basis and SLU’s research is used in the education, whilst at the same time it enjoys connections with industry.
The programme is mainly taught in Swedish. Courses in English may occur.
