The Department of Economics, SLU, Uppsala, is seeking to recruit an Associate Senior Lecturer in economics, specialising in natural resource and environmental economics.
The overarching concept guiding activities at the Department of Economics, SLU, is to develop knowledge within business studies and economics regarding people’s use of biological natural resources and protection and conservation of these resources. This is achieved through teaching, research and dissemination of information in an international environment. Efforts to achieve sustainable management require prior knowledge of economic conditions, people’s decision-making situations and tools that can help achieve the goals of a good environment and a good standard of living within Sweden and internationally.
Subject area: The subject area is economics, specialising in natural resource and environmental economics. This includes analyses of sustainable management of biological natural resources from different perspectives. Applied analyses mainly concern the importance and value of land use and natural resources for terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem services, energy and food, and their role in environmental agricultural and forest policy. This includes managing and developing tools for sustainable management of societal and natural resources.
Duties: The successful applicant for the post of Associate Senior Lecturer will develop his or her own research profile within the area of natural resource and environmental economics, with the emphasis on applied quantitative analysis. The successful applicant will also teach students at undergraduate and Master’s level and act as assistant supervisor of PhD students. The holder of the post will undertake further training in pedagogics and, during the course of their employment, is expected to meet the requirements for promotion to the post of Senior Lecturer.
Qualifications:
Those holding a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification are eligible to apply for the post of Associate Senior Lecturer. The candidate should preferably have held this degree or qualification for no more than seven years before the closing date for applications for this position. To be eligible for the post of assistant university lecturer, applicants must have scientific expertise within natural resource and environmental economics. Experience of a research environment outside SLU corresponding to a post-doctorate post or a doctoral degree from another university or research institute is expected. A good ability to express oneself in written and spoken English is required.
Assessment criteria:
When assessing applications for the post of Associate Senior Lecturer, the main emphasis will be placed on scientific ability. The next aspect assessed will be the applicant’s ability to develop an independent research profile within the relevant research area, and their ability to meet – by the end of the Associate Senior lectureship - the requirements for promotion to the post of Senior Lecturer. Particular emphasis will be placed on applicants’ competence within microeconomic theory, quantitative methods and policy analysis. Emphasis will also be placed on communication skills and an ability to integrate into the various activities of the Department within the subject area of natural resource and environmental economics, such as administration experience relevant to the subject matter and tasks of the post. Experience of teaching will be an advantage.

Form of employment: The term of the post is limited to 4 years, in accordance with the Swedish Further Education Act. The post of assistant university lecturer is a stage on the path towards an academic career at SLU. During the course of their employment, the Associate Senior Lecturer has the right to seek promotion to the post of Senior Lecturer, based on criteria established in conjunction with the job description for the post of Associate Senior Lecturer.

The scientific and pedagogic documentation submitted in support of the application shall be indicated in the application, and one copy of each document shall be made available to the Registrar at the time of application. At most 5 scientific publications and at most 5 pedagogic publications, including popularized versions, should be submitted in support of the application. In addition a complete list of publications shall be supplied; the publications submitted with the application must be indicated. When expert reviewers have been appointed, the applicant(s) will be informed to send copies of the documentation listed in the application to each one of the reviewers.
