Assistant Professor in The Occurrence of Species in Freshwater Environments

The Swedish Species Information Centre is a national centre for the knowledge on biodiversity. One of our responsibilities is to gather knowledge about the Swedish fauna and flora, and to conduct analyses of population viability and environmental conditions for the Swedish biodiversity.

Duties: The primary duty is to conduct research. An overall aim is to investigate the effects of landscape conditions on the occurrence and distribution of species using data on species occurrences and autecology. Contributions to the development of the methodology for such analyses are also desirable. The project should preferably be formulated together with the Swedish Species Information Centre (where the position is located) and other collaborators at SLU, primarily with the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment.

Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in ecology or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Priority will be given to applicants who have been awarded their PhD degree at most five years before the last date for application submission.

Assessment criteria:
Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific qualifications within the subject area. Earlier research in population, community or landscape ecology, experience with analysis of presence-only data and with extensive datasets are desirable. Post doc work, an ability and interest to develop current analysis methodology, good knowledge of R or other corresponding statistics software is considered a merit. Also experiences with collaboration with the society or industry, and popular science publishing are considered to be positive. Good collaborative ability is appreciated.

The application should be written in English, and all enclosed documents should be submitted in quadruplicate. The following documents should be included with the application: CV including a publication list, PhD diploma, copies of no more than five publications, a description of previous research and other activities of relevance for the position (maximum two pages), and a description of current research interests and planned research that the applicant intends to carry out within this position (maximum two pages). Names and addresses of at least two people able to provide references for the candidate should also be provided.

The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of four years.
